UP-SIDE-DOWN

Experimental installation in wetlands

The Hortillonnages are a network of canals, gardens and agricultural islands in the city of Amiens. For the festival “Art, Villes et Paysages”, we developed the site known as the dump island. A former vegetable plot, the island had evolved as a place for depositing excess mud dredged from the river; mud which contains both trash and heavy metals. Our project experiments with different techniques to stabilize the banks as well as treat the excess mud with plants through a natural process of phytoremediation. Red tubing adds a playful and graphic aspect, guiding people around the island.
