ZIP PLAY

Intergenerational playground

The city of Cleveland sponsors an annual international design competition to generate ideas for underutilized spaces in the city. The 2008 Interplay was devoted to the theme of playing in the city. The site is an intermediate space between the railway, a industrial neighborhood in transistion and Edgewater Park along Lake Erie. A bike and pedestrian path runs through the space and provides potential for year round use. Motivated by the kinetics of the context, ZipPlay is a design about motion, imagination and fun as it defines different uses and spaces for play. ZipPlay becomes a place of discovery that inspires and develops the imagination of children.
